I love handmade needlework items. I have so many of them but they just call to me...Here's a glimpse of the items I picked up while I was in Alanya, Turkey.
These are hand knitted socks. I love the way they are constructed. I bought from from a little, old Turkish lady who was selling a selection of these and also regular socks. She had made them herself and I think they are so special.....
This table runner caught my eye and I just had to get it for my collection. I think it's a type of crochet - maybe Clones lace? If you know the proper name, please let me know.
This is a crocheted doily made with regular crochet thread but I thought the pattern was so beautiful Maybe I can recreate it one day.....
Speaking of recreate, I crocheted this doily almost 40 years ago. I look at it now and I don't think I could do this type of work again. The thread is so thin and it hurts by hands now to to this. The joys of getting older......
I'll leave with you a photo of the beautiful lillies I bought from my local grocery store. They were $5.00 and lasted one week! I always love a bargain.
Have a wonderful weekend and it's always a joy to hear from you.
Blessings,
Pat

Pat, those items are just gorgeous. Is that tatting or crochet lace?
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and hope you get some rain.
Meredith
Thank you Meredith. I believe it's crochet lace. How I wish I could do this type of work :)
DeleteSuch beautiful pieces and wonderful souvenirs of your travels as well! I am sure that you will treasure them for many years. Thank you so much as always for joining in. I hope that you have a great weekend. xx
ReplyDeleteHi Amy, many thanks. It's going to be a very warm weekend here. My best to you :)
DeleteThey're all really beautiful, Pat, and it makes you wonder how they are created sometimes, they're so intricate. I'm very impressed with the doily you made - I know I won't be making anything like that any time soon! xx
ReplyDeleteHello Christine, thanks for stopping by. I don't think I could make that doily again after all these years.....My best to you for a wonderful weekend. Pat xx
DeleteBeautiful work, I particularly love the doily you crocheted, a real delight.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I had forgotten about making this doily almost 40 years ago! Time goes by so so fast....Enjoy your day.
DeleteSuch a beautiful collection, I love the runner especially. The Lillies are gorgeous too xx
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty socks! They would be good to slip on to wear around the house. The crochet work is beautiful. Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteAren't those the cutest wee socks! Love local crafts like this and the crochet work is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
I love your hand-crafted items...particularly that beautiful crochet! The lilies are so pretty. Sometimes white makes the most dramatic statement by not drawing attention away from the actual form of the flower! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the socks how colourful, your doily is lovely I made one similar many years ago but now like you I would find it too difficult to work with such thin thread. Have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteI tried to leave you a message earlier but my Ipad wouldn't play nicely so I'm trying again now on the laptop.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say welcome to the group and how lovely it is to see you joining in the fun. Your doilies really made me smile.....so pretty. Well done you for the one you crocheted.
Hugs,
Annie x
They are beautiful purchases, I can see why you fell in love with those beautiful socks, absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing to see all the various different crafts made in other countries round the world x the turkish socks are beautiful x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the slippers' bright flowers on black background. I know what you mean about not being able to do quite the same fine work as when you were younger. I have a drawn thread-work project and a cross-stitch project, both of which I began many years ago and the work is so fine I think I will never really be able to finish either. Nevermind! I'm glad to be able to do needlework to relax, rather than have to do it to earn money. Hats off to the Turkish needleworkers! I don't know enough about crochet to identify the type in the beautiful doily.
ReplyDeleteYou picked up some beautiful pieces, but is that runner crochet? It looks a bit like tatting but it's hard to see the detail in the photo.
ReplyDeleteWill you be able to copy the crochet doily just by looking at it? My nan used to be able to do that, in fact she couldn't read a pattern and always just borrowing items, recreated them, then gave the originals back. Very impressive stuff!
I love your 40 year old doily Pat. A magnificent heirloom piece! And you found some wonderful items on your travels. I especially adore the little black socks.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to see other countries real hand made items and lovely keepsakes to remind you of your journey.
ReplyDeleteThose socks are beautiful and would wear as slippers, too good to hide. Love the lace and a basket full of vintage lace is a draw for me. Hope you get some relief from the heat, we are very humid atm and need a shower every time you move, yukk! Have a good week x
ReplyDeleteYou have some lovely work to show there Pat. I love the ´pineapple´ doiley that you made yourself, but I also find the finer threads very difficult to work with these days. Kate x
ReplyDeleteHow beautful everything is, especially the sock. Gorgeous colours. We had some rain this morning and I have never been so pleased to see it! The ground resembles dust in some places and concrete in others. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics. Those socks look cosy and seeing your crotchet doiley reminds me of the ones my Mum used to make...most of which are upstairs and I still use them.
ReplyDeleteHugs
xx

ReplyDeleteLilly is beautiful! I do love the photo of all the spices and the square bread is a clever one!x
